A Dinner Invitation

03.05.23

Some of my fondest memories of last summer on summer staff were sitting around a table and eating a meal with members of this community. Not only was the food always amazing but the conversations and stories that I heard were life-giving and encouraging to me. I think that being invited to sit down and share a meal with a person is one of the most beautiful ways to show love towards others and build community with them.

24 hours before Jesus died on the cross He invited His apostles to share a meal with Him. We commonly know this meal as The Last Supper. During The Last Supper Jesus explained to His apostles that He was about to make the ultimate sacrifice for all of humanity. He was going to die on the cross for all the world's sins. They ate bread and drank wine at the Last Supper. The bread represented His body and the wine represented His blood. With just 24 hours left on this earth, He choose to gather those closest to Him and share a meal with Him. Sitting down in community with one another and recognizing what Jesus has done for the world is how we can celebrate communion.
