A Reoccurring Theme

05.21.23

As Summer Staff has been quickly approaching I have spent a lot of time reviewing the HCC Bible Basics curriculum. Bible Basics is a program composed of 25 different chapters of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation that explains the basics of the Bible. As I reflect on the notes and scripture that I learned last summer, I noticed a common theme throughout the Bible, and that is blood. In Genesis chapter 3 God made the first blood sacrifice for Adam and Eve when they sinned. In Genesis chapter 22 God provided a ram to be sacrificed instead of Abraham's son, Isaac. In Exodus 12 a Passover lamb is sacrificed to protect the Israelites.

These are just a few examples of blood being shed in the Bible. It is important to recognize a theme like this when studying the Bible because each of these events ultimately points to the ultimate event when blood was shed and that was the crucifixion of Jesus. Jesus' blood was shed on the cross to cover the sins of the people. This is similar to the animal sacrifices that were performed in the Old Testament. But what sets Jesus' sacrifice apart from all the rest is that it was the ultimate and final sacrifice. It was the sacrifice to end all sacrifices and no more blood needs to be shed. It is not just the 25 chapters in Bible Basics that point to Jesus, the entire Bible does.
