You Are Mine

I work in a variety of settings with kids of all different ages. When you are trained to work in different child care settings you are typically told to learn every child's name and always address them by their name. It makes them feel seen and known. It is important in order to build a connection with that child.

This got me thinking about how Jesus knows each of our names. He knew our names before we were born. He calls us by name because He sees us and knows us. It was on the cross that He chose to die for each of our sins. He knows our sins as much as He knows our names and yet He will only call us by our name. Isaiah 43:1 says:

"But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine."

So if you feel that you have sinned too much and you do not think that you can be forgiven, remember that Jesus does not call you by your sins. He calls you by your name. The Creator of the Universe wants to know you and have a relationship with you so much that He was willing to die on the cross for you.
