Lay it All Down

01.21.24

For this week's communion meditation, I want to focus on Luke chapter  5. It says:

"On one of the days while Jesus was teaching, some proud religious law-keepers and teachers of the Law were sitting by Him. They had come from every town in the countries of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was there to heal them. Some men took a man who was not able to move his body to Jesus. He was carried on a bed. They looked for a way to take the man into the house where Jesus was. But they could not find a way to take him in because of so many people. They made a hole in the roof over where Jesus stood. Then they let the bed with the sick man on it down before Jesus. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

We as sinners all have some sort of paralysis in our lives. This may be spiritual, emotional, or mental. Our bad habits or poor choices could make us feel stuck and distant from God. This passage in Luke 5 reminds me that the same God that forgave the sins of the paralyzed man is the same God that is forgiving us of our sins. This is through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. By laying His life down we now have the opportunity to be in a relationship with the Lord. The Lord wants us to lay down our paralysis at the foot of the cross. Nothing is too big for the Lord or too unknown for Him to handle. He wants us to accept the gift that His son has given each and every one of us.
