Leave it at the Door

09.02.23

The first week of school in college is referred to as "Syllabus week" which just means that the professor will outline the expectations and structure of the class. During my biology class, my instructor made it very clear to us that we are to leave our beliefs at the door when we come into her classroom. That is a tough thing to hear as a believer because we strive to bring Christ into everything that we do. I am sure that many of us have either been in a collegiate setting or a workplace setting that did not celebrate or accept our faith.

The phrase "leave it at the door" really got stuck in my head after hearing her say that. It got me thinking about what Christ tells us to leave at the door. Because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we are now able to leave lots of stuff at the door. We can leave our shame, guilt, worries, and past mistakes at the door when we go to the Father. Because Jesus shed His blood for us and chose to take on our sins, we can now leave those sins at the door. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we could leave our past burdens, pain, and anxieties at the foot of the cross. He is here for us and loves us so deeply that He was willing to die for us. Jesus wants us to open up the door and let Him into our hearts and in doing so we can leave our sins at that door.
